Manga Review – Chobits

So… this is about Chobits, an 8-volume series written by CLAMP, the creators of series like Cardcaptor Sakura and the works.

Plot:

The unique plot of Chobits is one of its great points.

This is about a university student named Hideki who is broke, but really wants a persocon, which is a humanoid computer that can do a variety of things. And low and behold, he happens to find one in the trash. He later finds out that his persocon, named Chii (cuz that’s the only thing she can say when she’s first reactivated) may be part a legendary line of persocons named Chobits (hence the series name).

Characters

My favourite characters/characters you might like:
Minoru: he’s a junior high nerd who knows a crap load about persocons. (my fav)
Chii: she is Hideki’s persocon… the most adorable character in my opinion, although she’s not very… intelligent…
Sumomo (Plum): Hideki’s friend Shinbo owns this persocon. Bubbly, happy, and sometimes really annoying, but really not so bad compared to Miaka of Fushigi Yuugi.
Shinbo: A friend to Hideki.

Artwork:

As with most of CLAMP’s work, Chobits is a very well drawn series. Because I am not an artist, I won’t comment further.

My Rating: 8/10. It’s a really cute series. However, some parts are just… uuugggh. gross. And the whole person loving a computer … is still really strange in my mind. But its plot and artwork gives it that extra goodness that makes it worthwhile reading.
