I’ve fallen victim to…

•September 12, 2008 • 2 Comments

Sickingly cute anime theme music. Aka Hare hare Yukai and Motteke Sailor Fuku.

From Lucky Star and Suzumiya Haruhi, manga and anime I haven’t read or watched.

HELP!!

But yeah, I want staffies for the scans group, Domo Scans. Need jobs of all sorts, except proofreaders.

Now to go read all that Special A… tee hee.

Clarification

•May 25, 2008 • Leave a Comment

Yeah, I realize that I was supposed to be reviewing Jisatsu Circle for you guys, but I’ve been busy. Sorry…

All I’d like to say to those people with the “I’m your greatest fan Takaya” comments on the review for Fruits Basket (I think there are about two)…

I am not a manga-ka, nor will I ever be a manga-ka. I do not write Fruits Basket, all I did was review it and gave my opinion. Let’s hope this clears it up. It was actually kinda funny at first, anyhow, like a “yay I’m being revered” funny.

On Manga Withdrawal.

•April 28, 2008 • Leave a Comment

So yeah. Just like the title says, I’m going into about a week and a half of manga withdrawal in order to do well on my upcoming AP exams. I’ve saved Nana 74 on my computer as a treat for after. Domo Scans has been left up to my most active staffies for now, I do come in once in a while just to read the forum posts, but it’s in their hands.

After that, watch out for a review on Jisatsu Circle, a horror manga about suicide.

New Manga: Blaze Driver

•April 19, 2008 • Leave a Comment

That’s right, I’ve decided to let you guys know of some up and coming series and to promote more obscure manga that you might not have heard of, but may have been around for awhile.

Well, Blaze Driver is a new manga out by Seishi Kishimoto, the manga-ka of the recently completed manga 666Satan (also known as O-Parts Hunter in North America). Here’s the translated synopsis from the magazine in Japan it’s being published from, Shounen Rival:

It is a fantasy in the near future where various tattoo-like stickers give different abilities.

The master of the sticker called ‘Blazer’, they develop it by completing it to a body.
The Blazer’s wage battle in a futuristic fantasy.

I’m not quite sure what to think of it yet, since only one chapter has been translated, but I think if you are a fan of WSJ (Weekly Shounen Jump) series such as Bleach, D. Grayman or Naruto, this might appeal to you.

Acqua-Scans has the first chapter out, if you’re interested. Let me know what you guys think of it and comment ^^

Manga Review – Akane-chan Overdrive

•April 19, 2008 • 1 Comment

Yes, after a long hiatus of not writing reviews, I’ve decided to write one once again.

The manga this time is Akane-chan Overdrive by Momokuri Mikan, an unlicensed manga, so you can’t really buy it anywhere in English yet. So until it is out in English, I’ll point you to onemanga.com which has the whole series for you to read online. For those more adventurous, I point you to Solaris-SVU, the group who kindly translated and scanned this wonderful read, so go to their website and thank them here.

The main character Amamiya has just died, in probably the most idiotic way possible: tripping over a bottle. However, he has one more chance at life given to him, through living in the body of a comatose girl by the name of Akane. Exploring the life of Akane, he has to make sure that he keeps the mind set of a girl even if he was a guy in his past life. Of course, he’s not all that good at it at first… which leads to many hilarious moments throughout the whole story.

A nice gender-bender comedy overall. There’s plenty of fanservice (ecchi) as well, for those who are keen on it. The characters are not exactly the most unique I have seen, but the hilarity of it all seems to make up for it. Also, if you’re looking for an exciting and intriguing plot, this is probably not the manga to read. Upon reading, it struck as a kind of “slice of life” manga.

It’s a relatively short read at 2 volumes, but is sure to provide good entertainment: 7.9/10.

Update on Scanlation team

•March 5, 2008 • Leave a Comment

We have a name! We are now called Domo Scans. please visit us at our revamped forum at http://domo-scans.lilneko.net/index.php.

We are still accepting: one Quality Checker and two to three scanners. All other positions are not really needed, but if you prove to be exceptionally good, we may just accept you.

We are working on the following mangas:

Sakura no Ichiban!
Assassin Story
Peace Maker
ADAMAS (oneshot)

Look out for our releases in the future! :)

Thinking of Starting a Scanlation Team… anyone want to help?

•January 20, 2008 • 11 Comments

I would like to scanlate Sakura no Ichiban!(Raws found on Hanashi) so I need some help!! You can find some info about it here. It’s by the same person who does Chibi Vampire/Karin. After that one’s done, here are some other projects I might start :) :

Upcoming Projects:
Dragon Sakura (Raws found on #lurk)
Ryuu no Hanawazurai (Raws found on Hanashi)

Future Projects:
Anastasia Club
Guru guru Pon-Chan
B-Wanted
Vampire Hunter D

and others that anyone else who joins wants to do… if they have raws for it.

(I didn’t check to see if anyone has these projects in their future projects list, so let me know if it is and i’ll take it off)

unfortunately, we cannot do any of these projects without… RAWS. so if anyone knows where to find raws for these projects, or has raws for other manga they want to see scanlated, let me know.

So all the following positions are needed, listed by priority:
RAW Providers
Japanese-English Translators
Chinese (Trad. preferred) Translators
Other Translators
Editors (who do all the following jobs; can apply for one of the editors’ jobs)
-Cleaning
-Typesetting
Quality Checker
Proofreader

In terms of experience, it would be preferred if you have already had some experience, but it isn’t necessary.

Translators should be able to accurately translate the RAW text; there may be a test.

Cleaners should be able to make sure whites are white, blacks are black, do some simple redrawing if needed etc.

It would be helpful, but not necessary for proofreaders to have some knowledge of the RAW language.

so… anyone want to help? ^^

Aaah, the Holidays…

Some news in:

For those who are fans of Gakuen Alice, the first volume is out … in English!! It was licensed by Tokyopop and now can be found at your local bookstore. :)

Also, Aerie Scans one of the scanlating groups of the series has finally released something, even if it isn’t Gakuen Alice :) . I hope Ghostcheese is feeling better after surgery!!

Also, some recruitment type news:
Operation Boredom: Desperate need of Translators!! They are jointly working with Vampire Knights and Divine Sanctuary to bring Special A, and they are also working on CutexGuy.

That’s all for now then! :)

Manga Review – 666satan (O-Parts Hunter)

•December 28, 2007 • 4 Comments

Aaaaah, haven’t done a review in such a long time, but since a somewhat popular series has ended, might as well. The series here is called 666Satan, if you haven’t guessed already, by the manga-ka Seishi Kishimoto, who happens to be the twin brother of the famous manga-ka of Naruto. So we’re not going to point out similarities between the two.

The story is about a boy named Jio Freed who is determined to acheive “world domination”, and wields a weapon called an O-Part. O-Parts are considered special weapons from a planet that blew up a long time ago and only people with special types of genes will be able to use an O-Part. These people are called O-Part Tacticians, or O.P.T.s. But there is something special about this boy: He has the legendary Satan living inside of him.

Now, we have a nice usage of the 10 demons and 10 angels theme also found in Angel Sanctuary that I found pretty cool. It did have some typical shounen things with the cool fight scenes, flashy poses, etc. but there was a uniqueness found in the character design. Jio means business and he certainly is more defiant and less of your nice guy with a sense of justice. Ruby is more than the pathetic girl character that needs saving. All the characters eventually find some sort of strength in themselves.

I found the plot actually quite enjoyable for the most part, but the end was so abrupt and unexpected. It left many things unsaid, but maybe some people like that. The plot shifts from the goal of world domination to the “let’s stop the evil crazy people who want to blow up the world” during the time lapse also… time lapses are strange. The characters seemed to be skinnier after…. oddly enough.

Overall, I thought it was a good mix of things, maybe not the most original in some cases like some plot devices, but had its own good share of interesting characters which drive this plot forward, making it unique in its own way.

8/10

*Oh yes. Please anticipate reviews for:

Diamond Head
Gokinjo Monogatari
Othello (not the shounen-ai one)
